HELP!! Computer won't post!
So here's the thing; I tried to flash the BIOS using ASUS's flashing utility and it erased the ROM and flashed it but said it could not verify it. I played CoD4 last night no problem and shut the computer like normal.
Today after work I come home and my computer won't even POST. I push the power button and all it does is power cycle constantly - nothing comes up on the screen. I tried clearing the CMOS ram by removing the battery and switching the jumper, but it is still not booting up.
My specs are:
Processor: Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad
RAM: 4 x 1GB Patriot Viper Extreme DDR3-1600
Hard Drive: Seagate Barricuda 7200.11 500GB
Graphics Card: XFX 8800 GTX XXX Edition 768MB
Monitor: Benq FP241W 24"
Sound Card: AuzenTech X-FI Prelude 7.1
Speakers: Logitech Z-5500
Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit
Motherboard: P5E3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP@n
Case: Antec P182
Any ideas? I've never run into this problem before and don't really know what I can do to restore my BIOS.

Re: HELP!! Computer won't post!
Can you force the mobo to boot in test/safe mode? Or do you not even get an image to moniter because it is cycling so fast?

Re: HELP!! Computer won't post!
No image comes up, it's cycling every 5 secs or so, just enough to poll the dvd / floppy drives. This is a new board with AMI bios on it so there should be a block bios present. Therefore I should be able to put the bios on a floppy and get it to reflash itself....only problem is, my bios is too big for a floppy (2 megs).
BIOS
Recovery
AMI BIOS
AMI has an embedded recovery
technique in the 'boot block' of the BIOS. In the event that the BIOS
becomes corrupt the boot block can be used to restore the BIOS to a working
state. The routine is called when the 'system block' of the BIOS is
empty or corrupt. The restore routine when called will access the floppy drive
(1.44Mb floppy disk drive) looking for a file named AMIBOOT.ROM.
This is the reason the floppy drive
light comes on and the drive appears to be in use. If the file (AMIBOOT.ROM) is
found it is loaded into the 'system block' of the BIOS to replace the
corrupted information.
To restore your BIOS copy the most
recent version of your motherboards BIOS file to a floppy diskette and rename
it AMIBOOT.ROM. The diskette does not need to be bootable or contain a flash
utility. It will access the floppy from 2-5 minutes the system will beep four
times. Remove the floppy diskette from the drive and reboot the computer. if
when you turn on the system it does not try to access the floppy, press and
hold the 'CTRL' and 'HOME' keys at the same time. This will force the system
(assuming the 'boot block' isn't corrupted) to access the flopy and look for
the AMIBOOT.ROM file.
Step by Step:
1. Rename the desired AMI BIOS file
to AMIBOOT.ROM and save it on a blank floppy disk. e.g. Rename 12345678.ROM to
AMIBOOT.ROM
2. Insert this floppy disk in the
floppy drive. Turn On the system
3. If no floppy access occurs press and hold Ctrl-Home to force update. Follow
insructions on the screen and it will read the AMIBOOT.ROM file and recover the
BIOS from the A drive.
4. When 4 beeps are heard you may
remove the floppy disk.
5. Restart the
computer.
Got this off a website but I can't follow these until i get a bios that will fit on a floppy. I'm hoping that asus can give me a stripped down version that will allow me to get into windows so I can flash a complete version.
Opening a technical inquiry with ASUS today...hopefully they answer quickly.

Re: HELP!! Computer won't post!
have you tried burning a cd with the file on it? Don't know if you've heard but cd is the new floppy. =^p

Re: HELP!! Computer won't post!
Yea, no luck. It may be because it wasn't named AMIBOOT.ROM. I'll have to try that when I get home tonight.
Re: HELP!! Computer won't post!
theres a button battery on your mb just pull it out wait like 5 min. than put it back try to reboot

Re: HELP!! Computer won't post!
Just got home. let me know what it's doin tonight, and I'll post a few more ideas. I recently had just that same situation.......though after hours of frustration, i forget how i resolved it.

Re: HELP!! Computer won't post!
Ok, so tonight I tried plugging in a cd with the AMIBOOT.ROM and firing it up. It spins up but the system still power cycles every 5 seconds. It is defineatly polling the floppy drive and the dvd drive (assumingly looking for boot data to flash the bios with). Right now I have pulled out the battery and moved the jumper over to clear the cmos one last time, after which I will try to boot off the cd again.
The ASUS guy said to clear the cmos and if that doesn't work, RMA it. I don't really want to do that because that could take forever. I've sent in an email to the store I bought it from asking them what they will do for me - I'll probably get a response tomorrow.
My ASUS ticket may be read here if it helps:

Hope you can remember what you did to fix yours Tac!

Re: HELP!! Computer won't post!
Tried clearing the CMOS again. Left it for 1/2 hour with the battery out. No luck getting it to boot or flash.
Re: HELP!! Computer won't post!
any luck getting into bios, or safemode? try all the shortcut keys.

You can try here if you want http://www.experts-exchange.com:80/?cid=735 I had some major problems awhile ago, I had to use my laptop to get on line and signed up for one month and they were great help getting my PC back up and running.
Re: HELP!! Computer won't post!
Good news! My RMA has been returned and I can pick it up after work tomorrow! That was really fast (Just over 1 week)!
Thanks for everyones help!
